This page will detail how to access the building and your individual apartment; this web page is specifically for information that will be relevant during your stay including instruction manuals for all appliances within the apartment and local information.

Please be aware that Blackfriars Lofts does not have a reception desk and if you need any assistance at any time during your stay, we are available by phone or email.

Your entry code will be the last 4 digits of your contact telephone number.

You will receive an email prior to arrival requesting you to complete our online check-in. Here you will be able to update/confirm the contact telephone number that we will use to create your entry code. The apartments are operated without keys; your entry code provides access to the main building, luggage store and your reserved apartment.

Your apartment number will be confirmed by separate email on your arrival date before 12pm.

Check-in to your apartment is from 3pm and check-out is by 11am.

The entry code is valid to the main building from 6am on your arrival date and to your individual apartment from 3pm unless otherwise arranged. The access code expires on your departure date at 11am for the apartment only but will allow access to the main door and luggage store, until midnight.

On arrival at the property, use the bottom keypad at the main door to input your 4-digit code. The next security door is on a timer which will lock if you do not go straight through. If this locks before you can access, exit to the main door and input your code again.

Please follow the internal signage for directions to your apartment. All apartments are accessed by stairs only and there is no lift in this building.

Your individual apartment number will be confirmed by email on your arrival date before 12pm. The room is accessed using your 4-digit code at the apartment keypad. The keypad will show a green light when the code is accepted, and the door can be pushed open.

Early check-in and late check-outs can be organised in advance of your stay, subject to availability and additional costs. If you require the sofa bed to be made up for your arrival, please message us prior to arrival.


All guests are requested to check-out by 11.00 am, there is no need to contact us on check-out, just close your apartment door behind you.


Should you arrive earlier than the 3pm check-in time, please use our complimentary luggage store. This is located under the main staircase in the entrance hall and is accessed using your 4-digit code. Luggage can be stored here from 6am on your arrival date and until midnight on your departure date.

Your 4-digit access code will be active on the main door and luggage store at all times on your arrival and departure dates.

We cannot hold any baggage outwith your arrival and/or departure dates for security reasons.

If you need to leave luggage while you continue your travels, we recommend using Unbaggaged, they will collect, store and drop off your luggage at a time and a place that suits you.

Alternatively, we recommend using Stasher. Stasher connects travellers with hotels and local businesses where they can safely store their bags, allowing them to freely explore the city.

CCTV surveillance is monitored in all public spaces of the building to ensure guest safety.

The closest train station is Edinburgh Waverley at the foot of The Scotsman steps. You’ll find the Scotsman steps to the right of The Scotsman Hotel main entrance, on North Bridge, which leads down to Market Street.


You can normally flag down a black cab on the High Street or there is a taxi rank outside the Radisson Hotel main entrance. Alternatively, you can book a taxi, see below companies we recommend:

We recommend parking at the APCOA Waverley Station car park which is located on New Street. As a guest of the Linton Collection, please show confirmation of your stay to the customer service desk on departure to validate your 20% discount.


All apartments are self-catering; we provide all linen, towels and a small selection of toiletries and consumables for your stay for the room capacity. Additional towels or housekeeping services can be offered at an extra cost.

If you are staying less than 4 nights, housekeeping will not service your apartment during your stay. If you are staying with us for 4 nights or more, 1 service is included and we will contact you on an individual basis to discuss housekeeping options.

You may leave any full refuse bags outside your apartment between 9am – 2pm and our housekeeping team will remove. Please do not leave these outside your apartment out with these times.


An iron and ironing board are located in the apartments. These are either in the tall, white door, cupboards in the kitchen or beside the stairs to the mezzanine areas.

A drying frame are located in each apartment’s cupboard.


A hairdryer is located in the apartment’s wardrobe.


We have an integrated smart heating system that detects your presence and will heat the room to an ambient temperature. The temperature can be adjusted using the thermostatic control.

The radiators need to be turned to a heat for this to work, so please ensure they are on. This is easily done by turning the dial at the bottom of each radiator.


There is a First Aid box provided under the sink in the kitchen. For anything more serious contact details for NHS Direct and local hospitals are detailed in this guide.


All apartments and public areas are strictly non-smoking environments. If you smoke in your apartment you will be charged up to £250 to cover the cost of cleaning.


Pets are not permitted in our apartments.



User manuals for all appliances are located under the kitchen sink.


– Please ensure this is switched on at the wall switch prior on cooking


(a pan needs to be on the hob with either food or water inside for the hob to work)

  1. To turn the hob on press the POWER ON button for one second.
  2. If the hob displays the L symbol, the child lock has been activated. To deactivate the child lock press both padlock keys together until you hear a beep and the L symbol disappears.
  3. Select the required cooking zone using the appropriate zone selection key.
  4. Use the + and – button to select the cooking temperature.
  5. To turn the hob off hold down the POWER ON button for two seconds.
  6. The cooking zone will still be hot after being switched off and the symbol H will appear.


(This appliance has different functions, full instructions can be found in the user manual)

  1. The controls for operating are:
    a – Left hand side: on/off; menu, information/child proof lock
    b – Right hand side: (time setting, rapid heat up, start/stop)
    c – A central rotary selector below the display screen
  2. There are different types of heating including microwave, oven, pizza, grill, top and bottom heating.
  3. To choose the type of heat required, press the On/Off button (it automatically defaults to microwave settings) and then press the menu button and select your option using the rotary selector.
  4. Use the rotary selector to change the required values shown in the display screen.
  5. To adjust the cooking time, press the time setting on the right hand side and then use the rotary selector to increase or decrease the cooking time as required.
  6. Press start/stop button to start or stop heating.


The Nespresso coffee machine is very easy to use. Please ensure there is water in the reservoir at the back of the machine.

  1. Press either button on top of the machine and these will flash green for 25 seconds.
  2. Once both buttons display a solid green light, the machine is ready to use.
  3. Pull the bar up, insert a capsule (with the silver disc of foil facing you) and close. Ensure this is fully closed for the machine to work.
  4. Select either a single or double espresso.


  1. To switch the machine on press the ON/OFF Power button.
  2. Load your laundry, add the detergent and close the door.
  3. Set the wash cycle by using the appropriate knob.
  4. Set the spin speed.
  5. Start the washing cycle by press the START/PAUSE button.
  6. To cancel the setting press the START/PAUSE button and select new cycle.
  7. At the end of the cycle the END indicator light will switch on and the DOOR LOCKED indicator will switch off.
    Please do not try and force the machine door open, it will unlock once the cycle has completed.


  1. The dryer function is selected using the 3 setting options to the left of the ‘off’ switch.
  2. Select the low / high heat as desired and press ‘start’ to begin.
  3. To cancel the drying setting, press START/PAUSE or open the door to stop.


To play the DAB radio:

  1. Extend the antenna and press the POWER ON button.
  2. The stations will tune automatically, move the joystick above the SELECT button up and down or left to right to scroll through the stations. Move the joystick above the SELECT to select the station.
  3. To play your own music using Bluetooth:
    a – Press the POWER ON button.
    b – Press the MODE button until the BLUETOOTH mode intro screen is displayed. It will now begin ‘pairing’ and say DISCOVERABLE on screen.
    c – On your Bluetooth device, make sure Bluetooth is enable and initiate a search. When the search is completed SUPERSIGNAL will be listed.
    d – Select SUPERSIGNAL. Your device will confirm ‘pairing’ has been completed.
  4. Should you need a ‘Pass Key’ please use code: 0000
  5. Play your music as normal on your own device.


All the televisions have Freeview, all you need to do is switch on the TV and select the channel using the remote control.

Using any of the SMART TV features are at your own cost. Please ensure to log out of your accounts before departure.
